It’s a common issue, your grids show up fine in one view, but disappear in another, or sometimes grids copy/monitored from one source appear, but don’t appear from a second source. Before you assume something’s broken, here’s a checklist of the usual suspects and what to do about them.
Common Reasons Grids Aren’t Showing
Grid extents don’t cross the level
Grids in Revit are 3D elements. If the ends of the grid line don’t intersect the level’s plane, the grid won’t show in that floor plan. This is often the case when you create new levels after placing grids.

Fix: Open an elevation or section, select the grid, and stretch it to cross the level.

Grid category is turned off
In the view’s Visibility/Graphics settings (VG), make sure “Grids” is ticked.

Fix: Enable it in VG if it’s off.
Grid is hidden in the view
Someone might’ve right-clicked and hidden it.

Fix: Use “Reveal Hidden Elements” (lightbulb icon) to check and unhide.
Scope box or crop region
If the grid is tied to a scope box, or falls outside the view’s crop region or view range, it won’t show.

Fix: Adjust the crop region or scope box.
Wrong orientation
In section or elevation views, grids only show if they’re perpendicular to the view.

Fix: Check that your view is perpendicular to the grids that you want to see.
Quick Fix Steps
- Open an elevation or section.
- Select the grid and extend it to cross all levels.
- Check Visibility/Graphics (VG) for grid visibility.
- Use “Reveal Hidden Elements” to unhide anything manually hidden.
- Adjust scope boxes or crop regions as needed.
This is one of those issues where Revit’s logic makes sense once you know it, but not when you’re in the middle of a deliverable wondering why your grids have ghosted.
