I haven’t posted here since December, I’m calling it a Christmas break. But it’s mid-February now, which means it’s time to get fired back up.
Rather than jump straight into a heavy technical deep dive, I wanted to share a quick outline of what’s coming over the next few months on digitalBBQ.
1. Cloud Model Upgrades
I have a few posts coming that look at upgrading Revit models in the cloud, which sounds simple until you need to get it done at scale.
I’m planning a multi-part series covering:
- Why upgrades fail (and why it’s not Autodesk’s fault)
- Error taxonomy – what each error actually means
- Triage process – turning your crisis into a checklist
This one will be grounded in real constraints, not ideal scenarios.
2. Revit, ACC + Python + Jupyter
Still on cloud model upgrades, I’ve been spending quite a lot of time in Jupyter notebooks of late, particularly around data extraction, classification mapping, and structured automation. One of the examples I’ll be sharing is how to parse data from ACC Cloud Model update reports to quickly understand where the problems are so teams can prioritise model fixes.
3. Automation Beyond BIM
I’ve also been working more broadly with:
- Power Automate driven email automation
- Excel workflows combined with AI
- Connecting structured data into reporting loops
So, in a nutshell, it’s what I’ve always been about. Stop doing repeatable manual work. If a task happens more than twice, it should at least be reviewed for automation.
New Addition to the Team
On a non-technical note, we’ve added a new member to the household.
Nacho.
He’s small, chirpy, chaotic, and entirely unconcerned with BIM. Burrito is still adjusting, but she’s getting there. To be honest, it was maybe a little ‘too soon’ for me after losing Takkun, but introducing Nacho was just as much for Burrito as it was for me. While the two cats are still figuring out how to live with each other, Burrito is much more settled having another cat in the house even if they’re not best of friends yet. Nacho is persistent though, I’m sure they’ll get there soon enough.
